The Board of Appeals hears issues involving interpretation of building and fire codes as adopted and amended by the City Council.​

Duties and Responsibilities

The Board of Appeals consists of five members appointed to alternating four-year terms. The Board of Appeals hears issues involving interpretation of building and fire codes as adopted and amended by the City Council.

Board of Appeal members must be at least 18 years of age, live within the City limits, and a registered voter.

The Board of Appeals meets on the first Thursday of March, June, September and December at 6:00 p.m. The meeting may be canceled if there is no business to be transacted.

Resolution No. 81-34 created the Board of Appeals under the Uniform Codes and reads, in part, as follows:

Section 1. A Board of Appeals is hereby established pursuant to the Uniform Building Code, the Uniform Code for the Abatement of Dangerous Buildings, the Uniform Mechanical Code, the National Electrical Code, the Uniform Administrative Code, the Uniform Fire Code, the Uniform Housing Code, the Uniform Plumbing Code, and the Uniform Swimming Pool Code (hereinafter “the Uniform Codes”).  The Board of Appeals shall provide for final interpretations of the Uniform Codes, determine the suitability of alternative materials and methods of construction, provide reasonable interpretations of the Uniform Codes and hear appeals as provided for under the Uniform Codes.

Section 2. This Board shall consist of five persons who are not employees of the City of Rocklin and who are qualified by experience and training to pass upon matters pertaining to building construction. Members of this Board shall serve at the pleasure of the Council.
