Rocklin Declared Purple Heart City
During last week’s City Council Meeting, Rocklin was declared an official Purple Heart City.
Mayor Greg Janda delivered an official proclamation last Tuesday evening, which was then presented to the local chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
In becoming a Purple Heart City, Rocklin joins the nationwide network of over 900 communities in the U.S. that demonstrate community support for military personnel who have been wounded or killed in combat. We wish to honor and recognize the sacrifices made by our members of the military and their families each and every day.
The Purple Heart recognizes the courage and sacrifice of past and present service members who have been wounded in battle or lost their lives in the line of duty. The Purple Heart is the nation’s oldest military award, initially established by General George Washington in 1782 during the Revolutionary War. Each year, on August 7, Purple Heart Day serves as a solemn reminder of the valor and sacrifice of those who have worn or wear this distinguished medal
The mission of the Military Order of the Purple Heart is to foster an environment of goodwill among combat-wounded veterans and their families, promote patriotism, support legislative initiatives, and to ensure we never forget the sacrifices of our military service men and women.
