Determine Special Development Conditions
The Commercial Permit Process - Step 1

How do I determine if there are any special development conditions for my project?

To determine if there are any special development conditions for your project, please contact the Building Division at 916.625.5120 for general information. In some cases, you may need to contact individual divisions.

Once I determine if there are any special development conditions for my project, what is the next step?

The next step is to Determine If A Building Permit Is Required.

Commercial Project Review/Approval
The Commercial Permit Process - Step 3

After I submit for a permit, what happens next?

At the time of submittal, the project will be assigned a plan check number that will be used to track the progress of the plans and plan review.

Some simpler projects can be issued over the counter, whereas others will need to be submitted into plan check. If your plans will require a plan check, they will be distributed by Building staff to the necessary City department for their review and comment.

Commercial Fees & Permit Issuance
The Commercial Permit Process - Step 4

Once my project is approved, will I need to pay any fees?

Once your project is approved, you will need to pay for any plan review costs, building permits fees or other fees that may apply to your project. Permit fees are based on a combination of project valuation, building size, and a fixed rate schedule. (Please keep in mind that some projects may also require fees to be paid to other City divisions and/or other agencies.)

Commercial Building Inspections
The Commercial Permit Process - Step 5

Once my building permit is issued, should I request inspections from the Building Division?

Yes. The inspections that follow the issuance of the permit are provided to ensure that work completed on your project meets current building codes and standards. (Please keep in mind that your project may also require inspections from other agencies or City of Rocklin divisions. Your approved set of plans and job card will specify the agency or division name including contact number and type of inspection(s) required.)
